Like so many residents of Issaquah I too am not a native of the northwest. As a transplant from the distant lowlands of southeast Texas I have had a different perspective of April 1st. Being only my second year in Washington I’ve found many new seasons I have never known before but only have heard of them through movies, TV and lore. In the my home town near the Gulf Coast of Texas I knew only two seasons. The first season was called fallwinterspring. No that is not a typo, you would expect me to say Fall, Winter and then Spring each separate and different form the one that precedes and succeeds. That is not the case for my birth place. The season “fallwinterspring” is one long nice season, with mild temperatures, lovely weather over all. It lasts for 9 months of the year. The second season is Summer, hot and humid. It lingers three months, but it’s not so bad you can’t enjoy the outdoors.

Here in Issaquah, I’ve learned a new language of seasons. Fall, Winter, Spring and Summer. All have their different qualities. One particular season seems to be predominately stronger than the other three. Winter, this one likes to make an early entrance and a late departure. Hence the inch of snow on my deck this late morning April 1st.
