Pike Place Market Spring Morning

Pike Place Market Spring Morning

It’s six in the morning. With a whirlwind pace my wife and I make our way to the car, traveled at the speed of a snail riding a turtle’s back on Issaquah-Hobart Road with it’s locally known morning traffic problem at it’s best, heading into town. We veer right into the converted drive-thru bank teller to order a Latte no foam and an Americana no room at Koffee Sutra. Unfortunately they didn’t’ have vanilla this morning, so we skipped it and gratefully accept our window of opportunity back onto the road via the kind natured local driver.

Today we are special in that we have 2+ occupants in the car, so we take our privileged place among the the other souls traveling at 65 mph on the I-90 west HOV lane. Ten minutes later we are exiting 2C to I-5 north then zipping down the 7th Ave exit, then immediately turning left on to Madison Ave. Swooshing down the steep hill, with a slow right turn on to Alaska Way. A half a dozen blocks along the converted piers we end at her destination for the day, Pier 66. It was a swift drive to deliver my wife to her Friday business conference. She’ll be with her peers listening to lectures on ophthalmology, all day.

Now that I’ve delivered my wife to her destination, I thought I would park and walk the local Pike Place Market for a early morning perusing of the local bustling businesses. I find a great parking spot at Virgina St and Pike Place. I enjoy mornings. I love the water. I soak in the morning food smells of downtown Seattle at the Pike. After making my rounds through the local shops, I stopped for a Seattle Weekly paper to find a movie for this Saturday. Then started my way back to the car. As I made my way south east on Western Ave, I spotted a family of three emerging from their car, beginning an early morning family activity in downtown Seattle, apparently for a day of site-seeing. I dismissed the family, but the young mother called out to me, “Excuse me! Do you know where a good breakfast place is?” I looked at the husband, as to get approval, his back was turned and was busy feeding the parking meter. So I briefly explained that if they  walk south east on Pike Place you’ll smell your way to many great breakfast places. She seemed very happy with the instructions. I turned the corner on to Virginia St, hopped in the backwards parked car and headed for Issaquah.
